In 1976, forty members of the "Queens of Gold" Interest Group organized to establish an Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® chapter on the campus of Glassboro State College. On May 21, 1977, the North Atlantic Regional Director Mildred Stuart and the Theta Pi Omega President Asora Carpenter, chartered the Lambda Rho Chapter. Lambda Rho was founded at Glassboro State College on May 21, 1977, by the "Tantalizing Twelve". Lambda Rho became the second African-American sorority established on Rowan University's campus, formally known as Glassboro State College. For the past forty-six years, Lambda Rho Chapter has been a driving force on the Rowan University campus through its service programs to the college community and beyond.
